A map of the metaverse: Hashtag Trending Weekend Edition

Welcome to Hashtag Trending, the Weekend Edition with your host Jim Like.

Previously this calendar year we did a collection on the Metaverse for yet another podcast sequence I host with my colleague Doug Sparkes called  a “Deeper Dive.”  That sequence is still very well worth listening to in its entirety, but more than previous months I’ve been wondering a good deal about a single certain episode we called a “map of the metaverse(s)”

We took the concept from the ebook Snowcrash, wherever the phrase metaverse was initial applied. In that e-book, there were multiple nations around the world or town states every single with their very own principles. They had there own citizenship and guidelines. Several of them were being run by firms or eccentric prosperous people who had been the “dictators” who ruled these worlds. Sound familiar?

You could vacation in between them but you did so at some possibility. They were tribal and generally dealt with immigrants and travellers with suspicion and often with hostility.

The thought in the e book was so shut to what we noticed emerging in the metaverse as it was unfolding IRL (in genuine daily life).  We saw a competitive set of contenders all striving to develop a stake in the new metaverse(s).  So I assumed, what if I described the emerging metaverse as if it was a world and we could map out the the different wannabe metropolis states.

The end result was this episode.  I hope you will come across it interesting.  It may well help make conceptual  sense of some of the things that are emerging in this article and now.

Just one very last take note.  There are a amount of content articles rising now that discuss about how the metaverse is failing, how Zuckerberg is shedding hundreds of billions or how the metaverse has become what sports activities icon Yogi Berra claimed about dining places in New York. “Nobody goes there for the reason that it’s far too crowded.”

We wanted to skirt both equally the posture of the genuine believer and the cynic. In our opinion, the metaverse is unavoidable. What kind it requires or in our parlance, what nation or alliance of countries win is not.
